Travellers now exclusively use the Coquihalla Highway, bypassing the closure. The fire near Hope flames northeast of the Coquihalla interchange, producing thick smoke. Smoke is heavy and readily to see, lowering visibility. A second blaze ignited south of Boston Bar on Tuesday. This second fire spans 300 hectares. It compelled officials to close Highway 1 in the same area. Two key routes into southern BC are now blocked.
